Materials overview

Close to nature. Part of childhood.

Childhood is a world discovered through touch. Small hands tracing the grain of wood. Favourite objects gathered within reach. A familiar table becoming a place to paint, build, imagine — and begin again.

At LUULA, we want to bring a little of nature into these everyday moments. We are drawn to the quiet beauty of birch, its gentle colour and individual grain, and the way it feels at home alongside the things a family already loves.

Our approach brings together the warmth of familiar materials and the possibilities of contemporary design. We create furniture that invites children to explore independently while keeping them close to family life — in a playroom, a shared living space or a little corner beside a parent.

For us, thoughtful material choices and thoughtful design belong together. A beautiful object should also be useful, pleasant to live with and worth keeping. Adjustable features, different ways to play and a lasting aesthetic give our furniture the potential to remain part of childhood as needs and interests change.

We believe in buying thoughtfully, caring for what we have and keeping well-loved things in use for longer.

Made for small hands, big ideas and the everyday moments that become memories.

Materials & making

Birch plywood — natural character, everyday strength

Birch plywood — natural character, everyday strength

Birch plywood is at the heart of our wooden furniture collection. Made from layers of wood bonded together, it brings strength and stability to designs intended for everyday family life.

Our wooden furniture uses 15 mm birch plywood, with a pale finish that allows the natural grain to remain visible. Along the edges, the layers reveal another part of the material’s character — a subtle detail that makes plywood recognisably itself.

Wood is never entirely uniform. Small variations in grain and tone are part of its natural beauty, giving each piece its own expression.

Its light colour creates a gentle background for childhood: colourful drawings, favourite toys and ideas that change from one day to the next.

Surfaces & edges — considered in every detail

Surfaces & edges — considered in every detail

Our birch plywood has a protective laminated surface with a translucent, opal-white appearance. It softens the colour of the wood while allowing its pattern to show through.

The smooth finish makes everyday cleaning easier — a practical detail for furniture that shares its days with drawing, making and play.

Edges receive individual attention during finishing, creating a smooth, comfortable feel where little hands meet the furniture.

To care for wooden surfaces, use a soft, lightly damp cloth and dry afterwards. Avoid prolonged contact with water, abrasive cleaners and harsh chemicals. Always follow any additional care instructions supplied with your product.

Fabrics — softness for everyday living

Fabrics — softness for everyday living

Soft furnishings bring another texture to a child’s space: somewhere to settle, pause and feel comfortable between adventures.

For our upholstered pieces, we select polyester fabrics with everyday use in mind, balancing a soft touch with durability and ease of care.

Fabric composition and care requirements may vary by product. Please refer to the individual product information for details, including any stated recycled content.

For routine care, gently spot-clean with mild soapy water, avoiding excessive moisture. A removable cover is not necessarily machine washable — always check the care instructions before washing.

Made in Latvia — precision & the human touch

Made in Latvia — precision & the human touch

LUULA furniture is designed and made in Latvia, where we work with experienced craftspeople and manufacturing partners.

Modern CNC technology provides precision when shaping the components. Skilled hands then take care of the details: finishing edges, checking surfaces and assembling the elements that require professional attention.

This combination matters to us. Precision supports a consistent fit and finish; craftsmanship brings care to the places you see and touch every day.

Behind each piece is a sequence of thoughtful decisions, from the first drawing to the final preparation for its journey to your home.

Designed to stay — through changing childhoods

Children change quickly. We believe their furniture should offer room for that change.

Our design approach focuses on adjustable and multifunctional pieces that can support different activities and stages of childhood. A place for early discoveries can become a setting for drawing, storytelling, building and independent projects.

The possibilities depend on the individual design, so each product’s recommended use, adjustments and age guidance should always be followed.

Longevity is also about how a piece feels in your home. Simple shapes, natural wood tones and clear functionality help our furniture sit comfortably alongside changing colours, rooms and family routines.

Our aim is to create pieces that families want to care for, keep using and, where their condition allows, pass on.

Packaging — protection with purpose

The journey to your home is part of the care we put into each product.

Most LUULA wooden furniture is supplied disassembled, with assembly instructions. More complex elements may arrive preassembled to make setting up your furniture easier.

We use sturdy corrugated cardboard to protect the components, together with additional protective wrapping where needed to help prevent movement and surface damage during transport.

Please separate packaging materials after unpacking and follow your local recycling guidance. Clean cardboard can usually be collected for recycling; arrangements for protective films vary by location.

Keep the packaging until you have checked all parts and completed assembly. It may also be useful for storing or moving your furniture in the future.
