Luula wins the German Design Award 2024 for “Excellent Product Design – Baby and Child Care”

About the German Design Award The GDA is one of the most globally recognized and prestigious distinctions across the design landscape. It is awarded by the German Design Council, one of the world’s leading design institutions with more than 60 years of tradition. Decisions are made by an internationally renowned jury, and prizes are granted only for outstanding, forward-thinking design achievements worldwide. Each year, the award typically attracts thousands of submissions from many countries and sectors—underscoring the significance of being selected a Winner.

Our path to the award In spring 2023, after consultations with Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA)—whose support has been invaluable—Luula accepted a special invitation to participate in the German Design Award. As we later learned, applications are generally reserved for national design award laureates; exceptions occur when GDA’s organizers themselves nominate a product and personally invite the designer to participate. On October 10, 2023, we received the official notice:

“We are delighted to inform you that you are among the winners of the German Design Awards 2024… »Winner« for Multisensory Art & Play Table and Chair Set Luula (GDA2024-14586) in the category Excellent Product Design – Baby and Child Care.”

What this means for learning “Our goal was simple: give children a beautiful, functional space that grows with them and invites hands-on discovery,” says Inga Sokolova, Product Designer at Luula. “This award tells parents and educators that design can be both timeless and practical—supporting focus, independence, and joyful learning day after day.”
