A book within reach. A corner that feels theirs.

Let the covers bring the colour
Try placing a few books with their covers facing out, leaving enough room to take one without disturbing the others. Their illustrations bring colour and character to the corner — there’s often little need to add anything else.
And the much-loved book with the bright, slightly battered cover? That belongs here, too.
Give them a quiet background
A simple wooden shelf and a comfortable seat in one muted tone can be enough. We like warm, pale shades with a little grey-brown or soft green. They sit quietly behind the changing collection of books.
The covers don’t need to match the room. A repeated colour in the furniture or fabric can help the space feel connected.
Think about the return journey
Taking a book out is only half the design. Can your child put it back without squeezing it into a tight gap or balancing a pile?
Keep favourite books within easy reach, with a clear route to the seat. Choose smooth edges and stable furniture, secured according to the manufacturer’s instructions. A low shelf still needs to be checked for tipping.
A small thing to try: Sit at your child’s height and take a book with one hand. Then put it back. You may notice more in that moment than you do from across the room.
