A book can be the beginning of a conversation

A book can be the beginning of a conversation

Choose a book your child wants to explore. Take your time, leaving room for questions, comments and quiet moments. Let it become a conversation you both help shape.

Notice one small detail

Pause at a picture. You might say, “I can see a little red boot. What did you notice?” You don’t need a question for every page — leave room for your child to start the conversation, too.

Let the story carry on beyond the book

If it’s raining in the story, listen for rain outside your window. If a character is looking for a home, build them one with blocks. Follow whatever interests your child at that moment.

Try this today: Choose one picture and imagine together what might happen next.
